# Keywords

> What your buyers research, and how a keyword goes live.

Keywords are the topics a lane listens for. Write them the way a buyer would search or read about the problem you solve:

| Good | Too vague |
| - | - |
| `outsourced SDR team` | `sales` |
| `warehouse robotics integrator` | `robots` |
| `SOC 2 compliance automation` | `security` |

Each keyword becomes its own intent topic, so you can see which keywords bring people in and drop the ones that don't.

## From request to live

| Status | Meaning |
| - | - |
| `requested` | Sent for approval. |
| `approved` | Approved; people start showing up in **2 to 4 days**. |
| `live` | Finding people. It counts in checks and exports. |
| `rejected` | Not approved. Try rewording it, usually more specific. |
| `removed` | You removed it. |

Approval usually takes about a day. A new keyword has **no history**: it only finds research that happens after it goes live, so add keywords well before you need the leads.

## Adding and removing keywords

```bash theme={"theme":{"light":"github-light","dark":"github-dark"}}
# Add
curl -X POST https://intentleads.si/api/v1/lanes/L1/keywords \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $INTENT_LEADS_KEY" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{"keyword": "sales forecasting tool"}'
# Remove (exact text)
curl -X DELETE "https://intentleads.si/api/v1/lanes/L1/keywords?keyword=sales%20forecasting%20tool" \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $INTENT_LEADS_KEY"
```

Or `intentleads keywords add --lane L1 "sales forecasting tool"` in the [CLI](/cli). Approvals are picked up automatically; to check now, call `POST /api/v1/lanes/{code}/signals`.

## The intent window

Signals cover a rolling **14-day window**. Someone researching your keyword shows up for about two weeks; if you don't export them in that time, they drop out. Each lead carries:

* `intent_strength`: `high`, `medium` or `low`
* `intent_score`: how strongly they matched; higher is stronger (it isn't a percentile)
* `first_seen` and `last_active`: when the research started and was last seen
* `keywords_matched`: which of your keywords they matched
