# Checks and counts

> How many people each lane has, at every filter step, for free.

A **check** counts a lane's audience over the current 14-day window. Every lane is checked daily, and you can run a fresh check whenever you change a lane. Checks are always free.

## The funnel

A check counts people after each filter, so you can see which filter is costing you volume:

1. Researching your keywords
2. US headquarters
3. Company size
4. Industries (or your company list)
5. Seniority
6. Job titles

The last step is the lane's **final** count. With a company list, the funnel has a company-list path and a combined path too; see [Company lists](/guides/lanes#company-lists).

## Available now

What you can export is the final count **less anyone you've already exported this billing period**, by strength:

```json theme={"theme":{"light":"github-light","dark":"github-dark"}}
"available": { "high": 12, "medium_plus": 143, "all": 673, "at_lane_strength": 143 }
```

`at_lane_strength` uses the lane's `min_strength`. You get these numbers from `GET /api/v1/lanes`, `GET /api/v1/lanes/{code}`, or a free export quote.

<Note>
  Counts come from the latest check, less people exported since. An export fills the number shown, or fewer if fewer people are really there.
</Note>

## Running a check

```bash theme={"theme":{"light":"github-light","dark":"github-dark"}}
# One lane (takes a few minutes)
curl -X POST https://intentleads.si/api/v1/lanes/L1/checks \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $INTENT_LEADS_KEY"
# Every lane
curl -X POST https://intentleads.si/api/v1/checks \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $INTENT_LEADS_KEY"
```

Follow progress with `GET /api/v1/lanes/{code}/checks`.

## Samples

`GET /api/v1/lanes/{code}/sample` returns up to 25 example matches from the latest check: job title, company, industry, size, state, the keyword matched and intent strength. Samples have **no names or contact details**, and they're free. Use them to sanity-check a lane before you export.
